Surgery, 1 PM November 8, 2000 Today, the surgery is at 1 PM;, and I feel very happy and self-confident. I spent my l/2 hour in the hot tub, with my exercises, which cover all parts of the body. As Guy explained it, we try to get all the "good" cells in functioning order, from head through the body down the limbs, and including the toes. As he explained it, whenever there is a battle of the cells, we want the "good guys" to win. And Guy should know, he really is a "good" Guy! These are Yoga exercises which I recommend for everybody, although, in China where I learned them, they are mainly for the elderly, done at 5 AM. Just my style, and in China, everybody seemed anxious for me to do them, not necessarily the right way! Here, in the USA, in Yoga classes, where there are many vigorous young folks, emphasis is in doing them the right way. In China, we older folks are more philosophical, just do something everyday, and it will be alright. "Look at us, we got through the Cultural Revolution". And to me, they are really so beautifl\ul, calm, serene, and really very adept at the exercises, although their attitude is very relaxed. Since 1972, I have par;ticipated in so many different 5 AM classes, from the old traditional T'Chai, to more recently, a more jazzed up Western version, with some calisthenics as part of the exercises. I think one of the important reasons I keep returning to China is to visit with their elderly population at 5 AM, to get in touch with the latest in exercises! My dream is to retire in old age looking and feeling like the beautiful elderly I meet in China. I think I am in the best hands, Director of Urology at Columbia Womens Hospital, Dr. Bressett. An old class mate, from GW Medical School, the gynacologist, Dr. Koch, Dr. Serena Fox, my friend, and best of all my old family doctor, Dr. Shumaker. Sarah will be at the hospital, supervising nursing care. David will be taking care of their four children. Gale will be coming in Friday to take over. Michael will be busy fixing up the new computer. Mary will be getting the Morse hostel ready for me. Alan will be making his usual calming telephone calls. And Melvin, probably busy consulting with the doctors, to get their reports. Ilene, praying with her husband, Dan, deacon at the Fairfield Catholic Church. Reb David and Am Kolel prayer groups all sending good vibes. And all you out there who have been sending messages, some 100 persons, a warm thank you for them good vibes. I am taking this huge file with me so that your vibes continue to surround me with warmth and good will. Thank all of you for helping me in this hour of need!
