Election Fever
Appeal from New Orleans
Having been in the Democratic Party
since the early Thirties, I have been
in many campaigns, and member of
the National Democratic Club when
I had served some 20 years.
The passage of the Civil Rights Bill
comes to my mind, when everything
was done by telephone. There were
no computers, and young folks cannot
possibly feel the moments of magic
as we can communicate to hundreds
of people at one time. And the messages
are received within moments.
Hence, as an old time Judge in the Elections
and working mainly through the Legislative
arm of Congress, to me the greatest thrill
and magic of this month is getting ready for
the Primaries and general elections.
Now, rather than calling maybe ten each
persons, to get out the vote, there are
such organizations as Move On. Through
this miracle of miracles, we can give as
little as $10 monthly, all done quicky thru
the computer, where our account, among
millions, is set up. We can contact our
Congressmen at once, since all we do is
write in our Zip Code, and up pops the
Congressman.
However, what I find so appealing, that
even though we had to call from lists of
our Precinct, now we are told there is a
party in our neighborhood, or they have
not been able to find a house.
Once you volunteer house of telephone
services, they supply you with names.
Great world we live in now, but somehow
although we live in the height of luxury
so different from the Depression Years I
grew up in, violence has not stopped.
Although our Defence Department is
pleased to announce deaths less than
50 a day, war is deadlier than ever.
Now there are mines planted and later
children play and their limbs leave their
bodies, to say it politely.
We have a very sick man in the White
House. He sees Terrorists on every
corner. The White House is underground
in Washington, D.C. And we are as close
to a Police State, as is comfortable for me.
Sadly, so much money is spent on campaigns
we think both parties are contaminated.
The President lies and lies, and maybe he is
right, if he repeats the lie enough, people
think he is telling the truth.
There was a preemptive strike on Iraq because
he told us there was Mass Destructive evils to
be unleashed on us. Later, it was changed to
evil villians of monster qualities. Always a
different reason why to fear Iraq, with its
citizens being murdered daily. There is so much
hatred against the USA, people are even killing
each other in massive hysteria.
Bridges and infrastructure are destroyed, to
give work to Halburtan and other companies
which serve bad food to our soldiers, live like
kings with their own executive dining halls
In general, we spend over one billion
dollars a day on this massive murder of citizens
of Iraq, children, pregnant woman, stirring up
more hatred against our country. In other
words, we create the scene as Terrorists to
beget Terrorists.
Well, the Election comes up soon, we are all
trying to organize against the Republicans.
But, we are uneasy, the Democrats are not
out there screaming: Send the troops home.
And we are uneasy that if the Democrats were
to win, are the same lobbyists for the Robber
Barons already busy on the Capitol supplying
the millions for the campaigns on both sides.
Sadly, many of the most vigorous Peace People
demonstrating and organizing through Internet
have never been very political. Just a very few
unregistered voters, or even Independent and
or Communist=Socialist inclined, could bring
the election right back to the Republicans.
Also, all over the USA, there are complaints
about the new voting machines. Elections are
won by a literally few votes. People are com-
planing they were unable to get into the polls,
and there are long lines at certain polls.
New Orleans has had dreadful floods and
their relief filled with much corruption and
suffering of the people. Old friends in the
Jazz community are suffering. They seem
to be getting no aid due to corruption in
the White House and his pals, all profitting
and people in despair.
When I get discouraged, I remind myself of the
Zen saying: When the times are violent, just
stay in one spot and do what you do best.
Me, I find that there is so much that I have not
seen or done, new music to be heard, new
people dedicated to music and the arts.
I feel very blessed to be going on
88, and still the engine and tires seem to be
functioning.

Get word to Congressmen to get their
Help, honestly and with integrity.
Hola, NOLA Residents, Friends and Threadheads!
We can help NOLA this election day on Nov. 7 with our votes - in fact, the best thing you can do to help New Orleans and south Louisiana is urge folks that you know outside the state of Louisiana to join Levees.Org (and join yourself if you don't already belong - it's free!).
Only Congress can authorize the money for hurricane/flood protection and direct the work of the Corps of Engineers. Levees.org has been doing a lot of great work with local members communicating with local legislators. But if we want Congress to really hear our voices, Levees.org will need at least 10,000 members nationally.
Please send this link www.Levees.org/ to everyone you know. It takes only 30 seconds and it's free to join.
They have compiled a Black List and a Gold List before the upcoming mid-term elections to remind voters which local and national legislators have been helpful in rebuilding the coast, and which have not.
