once forgiven forgotten
but I do seem to remember
And if I try hard enough prove it
you were very mischievous
In the high chair
Not only did you stick your fingers
In the bowl, stir all the food around
On the high chair
All this was forgiven
Since to forgive is to forget
BUTTTTTT
I do remember and not start to
Bring that memory
After I cleaned up the high chair
All the hair on your head
The bowl itself had to be on your head
The other you did not mind
But being a mother
Who was so afraid to say NO
Else, all his life he will have to
Think it funny putting things on his head
And I do remember and now forgive you
Because I took the bowl off your head
Ignoring screaming such as would wound
Any sensitive mother and I dared not
Create a scar on your personality
BUT ever since that accident
You never went to sleep
unless you wore a hat
In fact, it had to be a different hat
And so that Thrift Shop always
Supplied plenty of hats
At hideous expense
But I was paying my due
For injuring your personality
Since I remember it somewhat
Bitterly, especially unnecessary
Time and expense
Please forgive me for forbidding
You to wear the bowl for a hat
Long ago all children were forgiven
for making messes
but Melvin, I am now really angry
that I think of it: Why did you
a little child think YOU should
punish a mother who was so
concerned about your personality
Why would you even think of
wearing that stupid bowl and
all subsequent hats that cost
me time and expense.
Well, hope you will ask forgivance
On that subject, now I am so angry!!
Oh dear
I do remember when you were only
Three you disobeyed me when
You just dived into swimming pool
and had me run for guard thinking
you had drowned, whereas you
had somehow remained alive even
thou you were underwater as if
lost forever.
Melvin,might take two letters for
that one, how hving asthma attack
since memory is so vivid.
Oh, dear really vivid memory
How about the time you embarrassed
me in front of all the children, oh dear
this is really terrible coming back
How about the time
How about the time
Very buried can't pull it out
We all have splinters buried deeply within
Welllll
I remember with terror when I threw
the hot soup at your father because he
was being mean to me
We all gasped, I closed my eyes
Never did know whether it scared him
for life, or did it burn his eyes
Just when we all settled down with father:
Least said, quicker mended
When suddenly you, surely over 16
and should have made believe
That the soup was never thrown
NOOOOO like the days when the bowl
had to be on our head (see not forgotten yet)
We all have splinters buried deeply!
How we need at least three to include the
incident when you did NOT listen to your
father's quiet: Least said, quicker mended
OHHHH it is so painful,
must I get it out from inside?
Ok OK More said maybe quicker forgotten
Yes you did, Melvin, I see your screaming:
Ouch! Never can we pull out the splinter
Mother, if you are going to divorce him
Don't think we are coming with you!
Melvin, you did say that I can see you
Well maybe if you try the maximum of
Three letters, I will try to forgive and forget
Melvin, thank you, you got all them splinters
Isn't it good to be free and not hold grudges!
Aside from those three incidents, I really
cant remember other than the grand old
days when we were on the road together.
The wind awhisling,the tune betwitchng
We were on the road together
Always hotel manager giving best room to
lecturers mother
Always nice New Age Mother coming to
find the mother of that sweet man
Always a little late, but when I said you
Were coming, there you were
I forgive and forget all the unpleasant
things that I dont even remember
Since there were so many hours of fun
On the road. Especially, remember
when the little lady from Montreal
Thinking I was sneaking past Registration Clerk
to avoid payment, and called Marylyn.
She did now exactly throw me put, but
gently gave me a chair outside the door
With instructions that I must pay to get in
And when you appeared: Oh mother, and
exhuberant embrace, right in front of her
Looking a little shocked, embarrassed, but
since then are very close. In fact, just
sent her a donation.
Met Rabbi Gelberman, and since then, now
at 96,we have five Inter-faith reverands
as they call themself.
OK OK I forgive you for anything I don't
remember and you think I should.
cosmic embrace
can I say more
Yet with such a
Poor Memory?
St Francis he say
I must bring light
in darkness
In doubt
I must hav faith
and in sorrow
i must bring joy
